Vesna Tomašić, PhD, was born on June 18, 1964 in Sisak. She received her PhD from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, University of Zagreb, in 1999. She has been employed at the Department of Reaction Engineering and Catalysis of her home Faculty since 1990. Since 2016, she has been a full professor with a permanent position in the field of technical sciences, the field of chemical engineering, branch of reaction engineering. She teaches numerous courses at all levels of study. Her narrow field of scientific interest is related to catalytic reaction engineering with a special emphasis on the development and application of catalytic processes in environmental protection. She has published 2 chapters in books, 75 scientific papers (mostly in journals cited in tertiary publications), three chapters in university textbooks in Croatian and English, several professional papers and more than 40 papers on the popularization of the profession. She is the editor of the English university textbook Environmental Engineering – Basic Principles published by De Gruyter. According to WoS, her works have been cited 664 times. She participated in the implementation of 14 projects and was the leader of 2 international bilateral and 3 domestic scientific research projects. She participated in 97 scientific conferences (54 of which were international). As a member of the scientific or scientific-organizing committee, she participated in the organization of 14 international and 10 domestic scientific conferences, and once she was the president of the scientific-organizing committee (XXII. Croatian Conference of Chemists and Chemical Engineers, February 2011). By the decision of the National Operational Body for the Development of the National Strategy for Education, Science and Technology in 2013, she was appointed a member of the Working Group for Higher Education, within which she was the leader of the Thematic Working Group for Part-time Studies. She participated in the panel evaluation of doctoral studies at the University of Zagreb and on several occasions in the panel evaluation of HRZZ projects. She completed several professional trainings in the country and abroad. She is a member of several national and international professional associations.
She has held numerous positions at the Faculty (Vice-Dean for teaching and science (2005-2009), coordinator of the undergraduate and graduate studies in Chemical Engineering (2005-2010), head of the doctoral study in Chemical Engineering (2010-2014), etc.), as well as outside the Faculty (member of the Technical Area Council (2005-2013) and Vice-President of the Technical Area Council (2009-2013), president of the Chemical Engineering Section of the Croatian Chemical Engineering Academy (2001-2005), member of the Committee for the Development of the Regulations on Doctoral Studies and the Committee for the Development of the Code of Ethics at the University of Zagreb (2005-2007), member of the Editorial Board of the journal Chemistry in Industry (2006-2022), representative of the Croatian Chemical Engineering Academy in the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (since 2007), President of the Committee for Doctoral Topics of the University of Zagreb (since 2008), Member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering (since 2009), Member of the Scientific Council for Technological Development of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (since 2018), etc.
